Sports Photography Exploration

 

i thought i'd try some sports photography. thankfully my two favorites didn't impress the editor, so i can share them here. in some respects, this was easier than photographing a wedding; i didn't have to get any artistic shots of the cake. however, this was a little more difficult because there are no do-overs. i missed capturing all three touchdowns. wait, correction: the only one i imaged was the pile of guys on the goal line and that's not visually interesting.

i guess sports photography is kinda like wedding photography except they're really far away and running a lot. i think the lens needs are drastically different and i need to make a decision if i want to being routing funds from my wedding photo equipment wishlist to my new sports photography wishlist.

so I shot a baby today.

and i'm really happy with how the pics turned out. yes, i'm aware how the title of the entry sounds. it was totally intentional.

lightning photography

although i've been spending a lot of time scouting for a nice setting for lightning photography, i didn't have a chance to make it to the planned location. halfway through the storm i grabbed my camera and trekked across the street into a giant field.

here are my favorite images. i packed up and walked home after the last one. there's no point in standing in the rain after getting an image like that. i love the trails of the tail lights in the first and i'm glad i chose to include the road. that's where all the lightning was anyway, so i guess it wasn't really a choice. :)

next time, i'm going to make sure that i have the wide angle lens on the camera BEFORE i'm outside.

shall we call these B-images? i like them. i might release them if i ever publish a book and need some filler images to make the others so much more WOW.

this next one almost made the cut, but portfolios might be redundant with too many blue-haired chicks.
